CCACC was established in 1982 and has grown to become an organization of over 1000 family members. They are a non-profit and non-partisan organization serving the greater Washington D.C. area. CCACC consists of many clubs, programs, activities, and provides a wide range of services. The programs and services are grouped into the following seven areas: Education, Culture & Arts, Health Services, Community Services, Senior Services, Sports & Fitness, and Youth Program. They are one of the largest grass root organizations in the Washington Metropolitan area and CCACC is approved by IRS as a 501©(3) non-profit organization.
CCACC is a vibrant organization serving, strengthening, and celebrating Chinese American community. Their mission is to enhance the quality of life and well-being of Chinese Americans and the community-at-large; promote the awareness of Chinese culture and appreciation of cultural diversity; facilitate assimilation of Chinese immigrants into American society; and advance coalitions in community development and building.
CCACC was established on November 6, 1982 by five people with a vision. The founders are Ned Li, Chian-Li Jen, Samuel Peng, Su-Min Chou, and Chih-Hsiang Li. Their original name was Capital Chinese Americans Community Center (CCACC). The name was changed to Chinese Culture and Community Service Center, Inc. in 1983. During the first ten years of its existance, CCACC has focused on providing facilities for the Chinese community and has been gradually expanding its social and educational programs and activities. During the next ten years, they have grown to an organization of over 1,000 members, with over 30 clubs and programs. CCACC has firmly established itself as a social services organization, and are constantly looking for ways to better serve the community.
Health Services
The CCACC Health Services provides health information to the Chinese American communities and health services to low-income residents without health insurance. The Health Services endeavor to reduce barriers and disparities in the health services. Services include the primary care for low-income and no-insurance county residents provided by Pan Asian Volunteer Health Clinic, training classes and seminars on various health topics, outreach programs, translation and distribution of health information, and interpretation.
Senior Program
The Evergreen Senior Program of CCACC was established in October 1998 at Tilden Middle School in Rockville. This program has the most participants, and is the one which has expanded most rapidly and with the largest variety of activities. At the present time it has at least 500 members and close to 100 volunteers. Members coming from mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong participate in activities together and help each other.
Educational Program
The educational programs offered by CCACC are designed to meet the needs of the Chinese American and mainstream communities. The mission is to provide educational programs and services to promote Chinese heritage and cross cultural understanding.
The programs offered are Cultural Language Arts Programs and Services for Non-Chinese Speaking Families (CLAPS), Adult Friday Night Chinese Class, Adult ESOL, Parents as Liaisons to Schools (PALS), Social Studies Curriculum Work Group, Education Work Group, and Computer and Information Work Group.
Cultural & Arts Programs
CCACC provides many culture & arts programs to promote mutual understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture. There is also a Media Center located at Tilden Middle School with a large collection of video tapes and printed materials open to visitors. All programs are open to CCACC members. Most of the programs are provided and operated by affiliate clubs and classes.
Sports and Fitness Programs
The Sports and Fitness program is the first and the longest running program by CCACC. It provides training, practice, and activities in various sports and physical fitness programs. It also organizes large scale competitions that promote team-work and good sportsmanship. These programs have contributed enormously to the health and physical fitness of the CCACC members.
Teen and Youth Programs
Teen and Youth program is the backbone of CCACC's activities. It serves the younger generation in the community with physical education and culture activities to promote healthy mind and body. The program includes Folk Dance Class, Martial Arts Class, and Children Chorus.
